Daniel Mencel
I discovered the meaning of “craftsmanship” thanks to my Father. He was not a carpenter, but a confectioner, yet through him I understood what it means to take responsibility for your work, to stay true to your principles, and how invaluable years of experience truly are. Watching his skilled hands, I witnessed mastery born from patience and persistence. He taught me that if you want to be a truly great craftsman, you must dedicate your entire life to it — for in true craftsmanship, there are no shortcuts.
It all began with a dream of having my own woodworking studio. To realize it, in 2017 I moved to a small village in southern Poland. I settled in a modest house near the forest, and in its adjoining garage, I built my workshop. I devoted the next seven years of my life to mastering traditional woodworking arts. I studied woodcraft techniques, sought knowledge in specialized literature, and gathered tools. Step by step, I learned design, tested wooden joinery, experimented with various material processing methods, and crafted my first pieces of furniture. I explored forms using exclusively traditional, handcrafting woodworking techniques. Each piece was the result of a complete design process — from idea and sketches, through prototypes, to final execution and finishing. From the beginning, I followed the principle that working with wood is not about taming it, but understanding its nature and working in harmony with it.
All my woodworking skills I developed myself, often through trial and error.
My current projects are the culmination of years of practice, getting to know wood — its strengths and weaknesses. For me, woodworking is an art — demanding precision, experience, patience, and craftsmanship — and like any art, it must serve future generations, becoming a timeless heritage that resists fleeting trends.
You can recognize a handcrafted piece by its edges. Touching them, you feel the time and dedication of the craftsman embedded in every millimeter of material. These details define a refined quality so rare in today’s era of mass production. I believe that deep knowledge of materials and techniques, combined with a clear design vision, allows creating products that are beautiful, durable, and ergonomic. Through my work, I strive to preserve the value of traditional woodworking craftsmanship from being forgotten.
For me, woodworking is more than a job – it is my passion.
Design Studio
Since 2024, together with a small dedicated team, we have been running an artisanal design workshop in Chorzów, focused on the handcrafted creation of furniture and interior elements. Within our 150-square-meter studio, we collectively define the value of human craftsmanship.
Our furniture is rooted in traditional woodworking techniques. The solidity, durability, and craftsmanship of our products are shaped by a production process that takes place entirely on-site, from start to finish. Each piece is crafted to withstand the test of time and to be passed down through generations.
We create out of a passion for wood, thoughtful design, and functional objects with timeless appeal — where detail, carefully selected materials, and quality of workmanship are paramount. We strive for our furniture to subtly record the history of the spaces they inhabit. Our hope is that, while discreetly enhancing interiors, they become witnesses and participants in everyday life.
